Excel Hospital was established in 1993 as the first Heart Center in Tijuana and was the first to perform open-heart surgery in Baja California. Excel Hospital has grown into a full-service, 24-hour medical center serving the San Diego, Tijuana, and Baja California communities.
Excel Hospital is the center of MediExcel’s network and is certified by the Mexican General Health Council. Excel complies with international standards for quality and offers a full range of medical specialties, including; Primary Care, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Mental Health, Physical Therapy, Advanced Imaging & Radiology, Pharmacy, Lab, Dental, and Vision Centers. Emergency and Urgent Care services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Plans include launching the first Trauma Center in Baja California and a new site by the San Ysidro Port of Entry in late 2024.

Urgent Care Coverage
Urgent Care refers to an illness or injury that is not life-threatening but requires medical attention within 24 hours. An Urgent Care illness may be an allergic reaction, a wound or an abscess, an ear infection, a sprain or a strain.
MediExcel Health Plan has the largest U.S. urgent care provider network in San Diego and Imperial County. MediExcel members have access to numerous local clinics as well as 22 MinuteClinic© locations in California, inside select CVS/Pharmacies©.

Emergency Coverage
MediExcel Health Plan covers emergency care services in Tijuana, San Diego, Mexicali, Tecate, Imperial County and worldwide.

If a member is faced with a life-threatening emergency in the U.S., they should call 911 or go to their nearest emergency room. An authorization is required for all post-stabilization treatment, including inter-facility transfers, surgeries, procedures or therapies. If a transfer is required, MediExcel will coordinate medical transport to our facility.

All emergency related follow-up care MUST BE provided by our network in Mexico.
